Join us for an empowering day of wellness dedicated to Black women on Saturday, July 27, from 1:30 PM to 6 PM EDT, at the serene setting of Governors Island, New York. Organized by Chicava Roslyn Tate, founder of DuYe Moves and Sacred Chrysalis, this unique event, “Women of Color as Warriors of Light,” offers a blend of self-defense, women’s practices, QiGong, Tai Chi, and meditation.

Event Highlights

1:30 PM – 2:00 PM: Gathering & Opening Circle
Kick off the day by gathering on our communal picnic blanket for an Opening Circle. Meet the teachers, introduce yourselves, and set the tone for a beautiful day. Make sure to catch the 1:00 PM ferry to Governors Island.

2:00 PM – 2:55 PM: The Universal Form with Kathryn Davis
Kathryn Davis, a seasoned Qigong instructor with over 35 years of experience, will guide participants through The Universal Form. This practice, rooted in Tai Chi and martial arts, consists of a series of postures and body motions designed to cultivate mental and physical harmony.

3:00 PM – 3:55 PM: Practical Self Defense through Tai Chi Push Hands with Master Kenya Dudley
Master Kenya Dudley will teach the principles of Tai Chi Push Hands, focusing on the circulation of Chi (life force/energy) through the body’s meridians and its applications in self-defense.

4:00 PM – 4:55 PM: Tai Chi – Introduction to Yang Short Form with Chicava
Chicava will introduce the essential movements and principles of Tai Chi through the 13-move Yang short form. Learn the basics of Tai Chi, including proper posture, slow and deliberate movements, and the philosophy behind this ancient practice.

5:00 PM – 5:55 PM: Let That ‘Ish Go Womb Qi Gong with Lady Shepsa Jones
In this workshop, Lady Shepsa Jones will lead gentle qi gong movements to open the body and connect deeply to the womb space, facilitating the release of anything that no longer serves you.

6:00 PM – 6:30 PM: Closing Circle
End the day with a Closing Circle, sharing insights and experiences, and enjoying some refreshments.

About the Event

“Women of Color as Warriors of Light” is more than just a wellness day—it’s a celebration of self-love and community. By engaging in mindful movement and self-care, participants will tap into natural sources of energy, fostering a sense of vitality and calm. This event aims to create a sanctuary within, offering strength and peace in times of adversity.

Meet the Facilitators

Kathryn Davis: An energy worker and Qigong instructor with over 35 years of experience. Kathryn has studied with various Qigong Masters in China and founded KUN LI SHENG™ Qigong. She hosts an ongoing online program, Qigong Self Care™.

Master Kenya Dudley: A martial artist with over three decades of experience, holding multiple black belts and accolades, including a historic win in the Men’s Push Hands division.

Lady Shepsa Jones: A teacher, author, life coach, and sacred femininity healer who helps women connect to their sexual energy for a powerful and nourished life. She is also a certified Universal Healing Tao Instructor and a licensed massage therapist.

Chicava Roslyn Tate: Founder of DuYe Moves and Sacred Chrysalis, specializing in Tai Chi and Taoist practices. Chicava is also an actor, writer, and producer with a passion for spirituality and metaphysics
