The overarching goal is to formally establish New Haven as the globally recognized “Silicon Valley for the Arts” (SVFTA), positioning it as a leading center for creative innovation and social equity through strategic narrative development.
Vision
The vision is to create a thriving economic and cultural hub where the most promising funders and founders of creative persuasion, with a focus on social equity, will converge. New Haven will become known for its innovative artistic contributions, distinct from other Silicon Valleys, by placing cultural equity at its core.
Key Components of the Narrative Roadmap:
1. Public Narrative Development:
- Engagement with Constituents:
- Conduct city-wide consultations to ask New Haven residents what they desire from their city and how they would like to contribute to its future.
- Use data visualization to illustrate the articulated futures and distribute this widely, inviting residents to illustrate these futures.

- Foster continuous dialogue between institutions and constituents, sharing valuable information to improve quality of life and meet municipal goals such as economic growth, poverty and crime reduction, and urban beautification.

- Create visual and textual representations of New Haven’s creative history for engagement by youth and the broader community.

- Gather data on the economic impact and collective vision for a more equitable and thriving New Haven.

- National Media Strategy:
- Pitch stories about New Haven’s transformation to national media and invite them to local events like the Yale Innovation Conference, Black Wall Street, Arts & Ideas Festival, Harvard/Yale weekend, and other major annual New Haven events.
4. Implementation and Monitoring:
- Creative History Curriculum:
- Develop and implement a curriculum that educates locals on the creative landscape and available resources.
- Text Campaigns:
- Execute targeted text campaigns to inform and engage residents about ongoing initiatives and opportunities.
- Article Series:
- Publish a series of articles documenting the history, current activities, and future vision of New Haven’s creative economy.
- Coalition Building:
- Form a coalition of organizations and leaders aligned on the vision and roadmap, engaging in collective ideation and planning.
Timeline:
Term: This is envisioned as a 2-year project, culminating in high-visibility events and dialogues at the 2025 Harvard/Yale weekend in New Haven.
