Bliss, an event curated and driven by the inspiring Desiree Gordon, transcended mere gathering; it was a journey of soulful connection and empowerment. Held as part of Ifetayo’s new wellness initiative, a space steeped in 35 years of black women’s love, power, and liberation, Bliss brought together a community of sistren to sing, create, and bask in the beauty of shared vibrations.
From the moment attendees entered the space, they were enveloped in a palpable aura of love and high vibrations. The setup, meticulously arranged with care and attention to detail, exuded beauty, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.
The event was not just about singing and making beautiful sounds; it was a journey of self-discovery and renewal. Led by Mama Desiree, participants delved into new sounds, learning and growing together in a space where creativity and authenticity thrived.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in various activities, from journaling and meditation to communal singing and shared meals. Each element contributed to the overall atmosphere of warmth and connection, leaving attendees feeling uplifted and rejuvenated.
“Black joy is not dismissing or creating an ‘alternate’ black narrative that ignores the realities of our collective pain; rather, it’s about holding the pain and injustice in tension with the joy we experience. It’s about using that joy as an entry into understanding the oppressive forces we navigate through as a means to imagine and create a world free of them” ~ Kleaver Cruz, Founder of The Black Joy Project.
The program opened with a symbolic act of cleansing and renewal, as attendees washed their hands before entering the space. This ritual set the tone for the rest of the event, inviting participants to release negativity and embrace the present moment with open hearts.
The sense of community and camaraderie was palpable as attendees came together in love and solidarity. Hand clapping and games added an element of joy and playfulness, fostering bonds and laughter among participants.
As the day unfolded, it became evident that Bliss was more than just an event; it was a celebration of sisterhood, resilience, and the power of collective healing. From the stunning visuals to the delicious food and soul-stirring music, every aspect of the program was thoughtfully curated to create an experience that was both aesthetically pleasing and spiritually enriching.
In the end, Bliss left a lasting impression on all who attended, reminding them of the beauty and strength that lies within community and shared experiences. As participants departed, they carried with them not only memories of a magical day but also a renewed sense of purpose and connection to themselves and each other.
